Artist Description: Lescop is an exciting young french artist, who has been developing a project in London with the duo, John & Jehn. Lescop has a straightforward objective. He wants to make people dance, while he sings about his obsessions: complex human relationships, love, films, punk and his and others’ many different heroes - amongst them Yukio Mishima, Marlene Dietrich, Jean Pierre Malville, Jessee Owens, Georges Guynemer and the Red Baron.. Lescop has, so far, always written lyrics in French, conscious of a need to reinvent french pop music, to take more risks, ‘to reconcile with the irreconcilable’.
Who better than John, French producer living in London, to join fornces with Lescop? To create an alternative to existing French rock, which sadly seems all but non-existent. To conciliate disco and mishima, Bowie – Berlin period – with Yves Simon. @We’re never easy on ourselves, we are really interested in music contradictions, we think this is where the magic happens, we want to mix French popular music with punk, wewant our pop to write the lyrics, brings music to John who reinvents new ideas at each proposition, in response to the music: tense, sharp and sexy.
The artistic collaboration carries on with Gael Etienne (ex. Koko Von Napoo)graphic designer and leftfield musician – perfect for Lescop. As a nartual consequence, John & Jehn created their label, pop noire, to encapsulate all these facets and drive them into one same direction: a singular creation. Lescop’s first release on pop onire, is an excellent first EP of terrific French new wave.
