Artist Description: Galt MacDermot is a Canadian composer, pianist, and writer of musical theatre. He won a Grammy Award for the song "African Waltz" in 1960. His most successful musicals have been Hair (1967) and Two Gentlemen Of Verona (1971). MacDermot has also written music for film soundtracks (Cotten Comes To Harlem, Rhinoceros, Hair, and more) and a lot of his tracks (particularly his works with legendary funk drummer Bernard Purdie) have been sampled by a who's who of hip-hop including Busta Rhymes ("Woo Hah!", Run DMC ("Down With The King"), Handsome Boy Modelling School ("The Truth"), MF Doom, Oh No, and many more.
